About the Workshop
Have you ever wished you could be more connected in musical improv? To find space and create more authentic improvised melodies? Are you frustrated with singing tunes that revolve around 3 notes? Would you like to focus on character and not worry about story? In this relaxed and inclusive 5 hour workshop, Lucy will use her 16 years experience of performing/teaching with Showstopper! The Improvised Musical, to lead you into more connected scene and song work. Lucy is experienced at singing in genre and loves to explore your unique performer qualities. She'll give you tools NOT rules.
Participant Experience
Basic musical improv experience advised as we want to delve deep. Sense of rhythm and tuning is preferred. Best suited to returners/advanced. Particuarly relevent to anyone who has felt disconnected or yearned for more space in musical improv.
About Your Teacher
Lucy has been performing, learning and teaching improv since 2005 when she worked with theatre maverick Ken Campbell. She was one of the ensemble of improvisers to play at The Royal Court in Décor Without Production. In 2006 she travelled to Canada to play in the Die-Nasty 53 hour Soap-A-Thon and has performed in many London 50 hour Improvathons since. She is a founder member of Showstopper! The Improvised Musical and was part of the Olivier Award winning West End run. For 16 years they have travelled all round the world and continue to offer workshops in business, perform in the West End and tour the UK. She is returning to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for their 15th year. Lucy teaches the 3 levels of Showstopper! musical improv courses and has recently set up Folkestone Improv Theatre in her hometown. She designed and ran The Improv Academy for Cardboard Citizens and is enjoying her first year of International Improv Festivals (Impro Amsterdam, Momenta Leipzig).
Lucy believes people do their best work when they feel at ease – she always tries to lead with kindness and joy and make people feel included. She likes to give tools NOT rules.
