Jorin Garguilo - You Should Sound Like Who You Are

About the Workshop
When I see your show I want to see who you are and what you like to do. I don't really want to see you do math or go through the motions of someone else's recipe. Improvisational training tends to put us in that space, and we start to think that the techniques and tools we've been given for building things are also what we aspire to reproducing when we play without as much regard for what each of us really likes. We will spend our time together examining what we enjoy doing, how that might fit together with what our partners enjoy, and how cooperating to make sure everyone is having the opportunity to be gratified in the work can produce unique, relatable play.

Participant Experience
Absolutely anyone interested. The focus is on the squishy parts of us outside the theoretical technique accrued from experience.

About Your Teacher
Jorin Garguilo has been improvising for 33 years, and has been teaching or directing for most of that time. 2024 is his twentieth year being based out of Chicago, where he has taught and coached at CIC, iO, the Playground, and for various other theaters and independent groups. He regularly teaches at festivals, particularly for university students. He was an inaugural Robin Hood teacher in 2022 (and is so glad to return for a third year).
